Library Programs

The Alamogordo Public Library offers programs and events for all ages. From big family programs to self-directed activities the library has something for you. Library programs are always free to attend.

Adult Programming

The reference librarians plan and execute several types of programs throughout the year, such as author events, educational programs, and self-directed activities. Reference staff frequently partner with community organizations for events. If you are interested in presenting a compelling topic to the community, contact the reference desk. Are you an author who will be visiting the area or live in the Tularosa Basin? Call the reference desk to speak with a librarianPuzzle pieces on a table for information about scheduling an event. 575-439-4148

The reference librarians also offer one-on-one computer assistance during select days and times. Get help using common Microsoft Office programs or assistance with an online form. The possibilities are vast, and our smart, friendly librarians are here to help.

Self-directed activities, appropriate for adults and older teens, are offered each month. Call the reference desk or stop by to see what is happening this month. Activities range from community jigsaw puzzles to coloring pages and word searches. Sometimes there are even crafts to take home. Bring a friend and get out of the heat (or cold) and interact with activities during regular library hours at your own pace.

Youth Programming

The youth services librarian holds programs for toddlers, preschoolers, teens, and families. Pre-school story times and toddler STEAM activities are held regularly throughout the year. (Please check the library's calendar for schedule.) For everyone's safety preschool programs are snack free and parents, guardians, or caregivers are asked to stay with their children.

Teen Café, for people grades 6 to 12, is held once a month during the school year and once a week in the summer. Teen Café features games, activities, crafts, and lots of snacks. Teen events are parent-free and sometimes get messy (in a good way.)

Family programs are offered regularly throughout the year. Builder's Club is on Saturdays (check the library's calendar for dates and times) and gives people the opportunity to build with Legos®, Duplos®, and their imaginations.

Fall and Winter themed holiday family programs are also held each year. With fun themes, activities, and crafts holiday programs are a must! These events are fun, popular, and always well attended.

Summer Reading Programs

Summer Reading Programs are offered for free each year for people of all ages. Kids' programs are for people from birth through the twelfth grade. The adult program is for people aged 18 and up. In addition to reading for fun prizes, there are events and activities to attend and do. Check the Summer Reading page for this year's theme, registration information, and schedule. Event and story time attendees are kindly asked to be registered for the current Summer Reading program.
